Thomas Biancaniello, Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Chief of Pediatric Cardiology was named as one of New York’s and America’s Top Doctors (Pediatric Cardiology) again this year.   Tom has risen through the medical school ranks to be Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs in addition to his hospital position as Chief of Staff.

Anupama Chawla, Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Chief of Pediatric Gastroenterology & Nutrition, was elected President of the Long Island Chapter of the American Society of Parentral and Enteral Nutrition for the term 2006-2008.

Marian Evinger, Associate Professor of Pediatrics & Neurobiology, received the 2004 Dean’s Commendation for Excellence in Graduate Teaching.   Dr Evinger also mentored a semi-finalist in 2006 Intel Science Talent Search:   Anand Chandran, Smithtown High School, “Gene Profiling of Medulloblastomas: Molecular Windows into the Development of Pediatric Brain Tumors ”

Susan Guralnick, Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Director of the Pediatric Residency Program, has been elected as President of the Association of Pediatric Program directors by her peers.   This is a tremendous achievement and recognizes Susan for her accomplishments in running our residency program and the impact her ideas have had across the nation in other programs.

Sharon Nachman, Professor of Pediatrics and Director of Pediatric infectious Diseases, was recently appointed Associate Dean, Office of Scientific Affairs and Director of the Office of Clinical Trials at Stony Brook.   Sharon is tasked with developing a coordinated program to attract and conduct clinical trails at Stony Brook.

Margaret Parker, Professor of Pediatrics and Anesthesiology and Chief of Pediatric Intensive Care Medicine, has been appointed Interim Chair of Medicine.   She continues to serve as division chief and provide clinical care in the PICU in addition to her new administrative responsibilities in the department of medicine.   Dr. Parker was named as one of the Top Doctors in the New York Metropolitan area (Pediatric Intensive Care) once again.   Dr. Parker received the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award from the Stony Brook University School of Medicine graduating seniors in 2005.

Robert Parker, Professor of Pediatrics, Vice Chair of Pediatrics for Academic Affairs and Chief of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, was named as an Associate Director of the Stony Brook University Cancer Center this past November.   Dr. Parker was named as one of the Top Doctors in the New York Metropolitan area and in America (Pediatric Hematology/Oncology) and one of America’s Top Cancer Doctors again this year.

John Pomeroy, Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Director, Cody Center for Autism and Developmental Delay,  was again named as one of New York’s and America’s Top Doctors (Child Psychiatry & Autism).

Alfred Scherzer, Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Preventive Medicine, was the recent recipient of a Commendation by the American Academy of Pediatrics for his many years of contribution to the care of children at the Angkor Children's Hospital in Cambodia.   There is an article about this in the most recent issue of AAP News. Thomas Wilson (Professor of Pediatrics and Chief Pediatric Endocrinology) was named as one of the Top Doctors (Pediatric Endocrinology) in the New York Metropolitan area.
