“Conversations about Cancer: A Dialogue in the African American Community,” led by Martin S. Karpeh, Jr., M.D., a nationally recognized cancer surgeon and Director of the Stony Brook University Cancer Center, is a conference about cancer prevention, screening, and receiving the best care. Sponsored by CancerCare of the Hamptons, the conference will take place on Saturday, November 4, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Bridgehampton Unified School in Bridgehampton.

Eductating the Educators: SBUMC School Re-Entry Experts Offer Model for Educators on Teaching Children With Cancer
A one-day conference devoted to educating teachers, nurses and other educators about the medical and educational issues that children with cancer face will take place on November 15 at Computer Associates in Islandia, N.Y., from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. The conference is organized and run by the School Re-Entry Program at Stony Brook University Medical Center.

Stony Brook to Receive $25,000 for Ovarian Cancer Research at LI OCEANS' "Wave of Hope" Gala in November
Long Island OCEANS (Ovarian Cancer Education Advocacy Network & Support) is holding its 2nd annual Wave of Hope Gala to benefit ovarian and other gynecologic cancers on November 2. Stony Brook University Medical Center will receive a check from OCEANS for $25,000 at the gala to support ovarian cancer research.

Adora Svitak: “Tiny Literary Giant”
The Charles B. Wang Center at Stony Brook University presents a rare chance to meet a truly remarkable speaker and humanitarian, the author of over 400 stories, and an internationally published writer – nine-year old Adora Svitak. Coined the “tiny literary giant” by Diane Sawyer, she will appear on Friday, November 10 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, November 11 at 3 p.m.
