Finished with chemo, LI man to run NY Marathon (Newsday)
Gary Resnick knew he had a few hours after chemotherapy before he would feel sick. So he ran the 4 miles to and from his treatment center. The East Setauket resident was training for Sunday's ING New York City Marathon. "It was unbelievable to me," he said. "How can I feel so good and have this cancer inside of me?" In July, Resnick, 47, completed his chemo sessions. Last month, he learned he's cancer-free. On Sunday, he hopes to finish the marathon in under four and a half hours. Kids' weight a factor in hospital admission (Reuters Health)
Overweight or underweight children who are seen in the emergency department are more likely to be admitted to the hospital, and to stay longer, than normal-weight youngsters, according to a study reported Monday by Dr. Adam Singer from the State University of New York at Stony Brook at the American College of Emergency Physicians' annual meeting in Boston. Health advocates are hoping that a cheap red watch worn by college students like Alicia Nelson at Stony Brook University will become the new fashion trend on campus this fall. The watches are part of the latest effort to counter the toll of binge drinking, a deeply entrenched problem at many colleges nationwide that appears to be getting worse.
