Stony Brook Announces Podcast Of Templeton Series on Trust

STONY BROOK, N.Y., November 28, 2006 – Stony Brook University is pleased to announce the worldwide availability on Apple’s iTunes Stores of its Fall 2006 lecture series on Clarifying the Nature of Trust in Religion and Science. These lectures are part of an on-going three-year program funded by the John Templeton Foundation.

Trust is one of the most important and essential features of the modern world. Without it, most human activities - from interpersonal relationships and mailing letters to boarding aircraft and taking medicines - would grind to a halt like machines drained of oil. Many institutions, from science to religion, have been shaken recently by controversies involving trust. Yet trust is difficult to examine in a comprehensive and systematic way. The Trust Institute at Stony Brook seeks to carry out an innovative and interdisciplinary inquiry into trust and its role in human life.

In 2006, Stony Brook University was awarded a three-year Templeton Research Lectures grant for a project on "Trust: Prospects for Science and Religion." The grants are administered by The Metanexus Institute on behalf of the John Templeton Foundation to promote important conversations at the forefront of the field of science and religion through interdisciplinary study groups, lectures, workshops, conferences, and an annual distinguished lectureship. The Stony Brook project will be addressing such questions as: What fosters trust? What erodes it? How can it be restored once lost? The free lectures are available in podcast format on Apple’s iTunes stores worldwide. The necessary iTunes software is available free from Apple’s website. The podcast lectures can be found at the following URL:
