Stony Brook University Medical Center Offers Free Prostate Cancer Screenings, November

Prostate cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in men, and is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in men. Early detection offers the best chance at long-term survival. Annual screening is recommended for all men over age 50. African-American men and men with a family history of prostate cancer should begin annual screening at age 40. The Department of Urology at Stony Brook University Medical Center will provide free prostate cancer screening services in the month of November. Free screening is available every Monday and Thursday afternoon at the Hampton Bays Life Care Center at 225 West Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 631-723-5000.

Free prostate cancer screening is also being offered on the following dates and at the following locations during the month of November:

Thursday, November 2, 2006, 2pm – 4pm -- On Thursday, November 2, Howard Adler, M.D., through the Department of Urology at Stony Brook University Medical Center is conducting free prostate cancer screenings at the Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton. Appointments can be made by calling HealthConnect at 631-444-4000.

Wednesday, November 15, 2006, 5:30pm – 6:30pm -- On Wednesday, November 15, Howard Adler, M.D., through the Department of Urology at Stony Brook University Medical Center is conducting free prostate cancer screenings at 24 Research Way, Suite 500 in Setauket. Appointments can be made by calling HealthConnect at 631-444-4000.

Monday, November 20, 2006, 5:30pm – 7:30pm -- On Monday, November 20, Howard Adler, M.D., through the Department of Urology at Stony Brook University Medical Center, is conducting free prostate cancer screenings at Martin Luther King Jr. Health Center, 1556 Straight Path, Wyandanch. Appointments can be made by calling HealthConnect at 631-444-4000.

Monday, November 27, 2006, 5:30pm – 7:30pm -- On Monday, November 27, The Stony Brook Prostate Program will offer FREE prostate cancer screening at Tri-Community Health Center, 1080 Sunrise Hwy, Amityville. Appointments can be made by calling HealthConnect at 631-444-4000.

Wednesday, November 29, 2006, 5:30pm – 7:30pm -- On Wednesday, November 29, The Stony Brook Prostate Program will offer FREE prostate cancer screening at Tri-Community Health Center, 1080 Sunrise Hwy, Amityville. Appointments can be made by calling HealthConnect at 631-444-4000.
