The Community School for Dance and Movement Studies Opens at the State University of New York at Stony Brook
The DanceSpace at Stony Brook University is proud to announce the fall series of classes for The Community School for Dance and Movement Studies, beginning October 3 and ending December 12, 2006.
Classes in Flamenco, Bharatanatyam, Latin Styles, Ballet, Tap and Pilatesfusion will be offered for a ten week session. All members for the community are invited to register for exciting classes. All classes take place in the beautiful DanceSpace at Stony Brook, in Nassau Hall 104/114 on the South Campus of Stony Brook University.
The professional faculty for ages high school through adult include Maria Loreta Celitan (Artistic Director of Sol y Sombra) will teach Latin Styles (Saturdays 5-6pm) and Flamenco (Saturdays 4-5pm; Catherine Lawrence (principle dancer with Netherlands Dance Theatre) will teach Advanced/Beginning (Saturdays 9-10:30am) and Intermediate/Advanced Ballet (Saturdays 10:45am-12:15); Christopher Scott (principle dancer from Bring in ‘Da Noise, Bring in ‘Da Funk) will teach Beginning Tap (Saturdays 1-2pm), Advanced/Beginning Tap (Saturdays 2-3pm) and Intermediate Tap (Saturdays 3-4pm) and Vivian Jung (certified by Physicalmind Institute) will teach Pilatesfusion on Fridays (12noon-1pm).
Sandhiya Kalyanasundaram (trained under Mrs. Shandrakal Jagannathan in the Dandayudhapani Pillai style) will teach Bharatanatyam (Saturdays 6-7:30pm) and her class will be open to all generations of dancers. Amy Yopp Sullivan (MFA in performance and choreography and Director of the DanceSpace at Stony Brook University) will teach Creative Dance for Children grades 1-4 (Tuesdays 4-5pm) .
