David J. Anschel, M.D. is the Director of the Adult Epilepsy Program at the Long Island Comprehensive Epilepsy Center and Director of Intraoperative Neurophysiology at Stony Brook University Hospital. When not caring for patients directly, Dr. Anschel has been involved with numerous clinical and laboratory research projects. Most recently Dr. Anschel has been focusing on translational epilepsy research which will both bring experimental treatments from the laboratory to humans and allow scientists to use the laboratory to better understand currently employed treatments. In addition to being an Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurology at the School of Medicine, Dr. Anschel is an Associate Scientist at Brookhaven National Laboratory where he uses unique neuroimaging facilities to try to improve the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disease.
Specific areas of expertise: Surgical and non-surgical management of epilepsy. Experimental treatments related to epilepsy. Clinical and laboratory research relating to epilepsy. Other areas include animal models of epilepsy, electroencephalography, intraoperative neuromonitoring, and transcranial magnetic stimulation.
