John C. Pomeroy, M.D. is Founding Director of the Matt and Debra Cody Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities, which provides multi-disciplinary care, including psychiatry, psychology, neurology, clinical genetics, social work, and education, to 250 children for initial assessment annually and approximately 500 individuals and families in ongoing services in the clinic and in the community. The Center also provides consultation in autism and the autism spectrum to more than 30 school districts. Dr. Pomeroy is Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Psychiatry and a fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
Specific areas of expertise: Autism and the Autism Spectrum. Identification and treatment of emotional/behavioral disorders in individuals with developmental disability.
Edward Carr, Ph.D, a leading Professor in the Department of Psychology, is internationally recognized for his research on new treatments for autism and related disabilities. He is one of the co-developers of Functional Behavioral Assessment and Positive Behavior Support, a strategy for dealing with learning and behavior issues that is now mandated by the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act, the major federal legislation specifying how all children with disabilities in the United States are to be educated. Dr. Carr is the author of a best-selling book, Communication-Based Intervention for Problem Behavior (1994) and has received numerous awards including the Applied Research Award in Behavior Analysis (American Psychological Association, 2001) and the Distinguished Research Award for Career Achievement (Association for Retarded Citizens, 1999). Dr. Carr is President of the Association for Positive Behavior Support and a Fellow of the American Association on Mental Retardation and the American Psychological Association.
