While in India, Dr. Kort received a lifetime achievement award for outstanding contribution in the field of clinical and preventive cardiology in the world. She received the award from the President of India, Dr. Abdul Kalam, during a ceremony that took place in the President’s house in New Delhi. Dr. Kort was among 25 people who received this award, which also consisted of two physicians from the Cleveland Clinic, one from the United Kingdom, one from the Netherlands and 20 of the most accomplished cardiologists in India.

“Receiving an invitation to the president’s house, and personally getting an award from him is a great honor,” says Dr. Kort. “I felt extremely privileged to be among the selected group of people who were chosen to be there.”

In addition, Dr. Kort received a distinguished service award for outstanding contribution in the field of clinical and preventive cardiology in the world during an inaugural function of the Congress.

“It is entirely appropriate that Dr. Kort’s achievements be recognized internationally,” says David Brown, M.D., Chief of Cardiovascular Medicine and Co-director of the Heart Center at SBUMC. “She is an incredible asset to the Heart Center, the University and to the cardiac patients of Suffolk County.”

The World Congress on Clinical and Preventive Cardiology was organized by the Cardiological Society of India Delhi Branch, Asian Pacific Society of Cardiology, Healthy Heart Education and Research Foundation, The International Medical Sciences Academy, Defense Research and Development Organization, Ministry of Defense, Government of India, Indian Academy of Echocardiography and World Academy of Spiritual Sciences.
