SBUMC 's Heart Center Holds Open House On Saturday, November 18

Stony Brook University Medical Center's Heart Center will hold a free Open House on Saturday, November 18 from 8:30 a.m.to 12 noon. Visitors will receive a tour of the Heart Center, obtain nutritional tips for the upcoming holiday season, and receive smoking cessation counseling. Free blood pressure and cholesterol screenings are available for the first 100 registrants, and parking will be validated for everyone.

Stony Brook University Medical Center serves 1.4 million residents of Suffolk County, New York. As the only tertiary care institution and the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the county, the hospital provides advanced diagnostic, treatment and prevention services in all major medical and surgical disciplines. Its clinical programs are integrated with the Health Sciences Center, which conducts basic science, translational and clinical research and provides medical education in a wide range of areas.

Dr. David Brown and Dr. Todd Rosengart serve as Co-Directors of the Heart Center at Stony Brook University Medical Center. They direct a team of 16 full time cardiologists, five heart surgeons and more than 350 specially-trained nurses and healthcare professionals in providing state-of-the-art care supported by the most advanced technology. The Heart Center’s mission is to offer quality patient care, medical education and training, research and community service.

Annually, the hospital performs:

- More than 14,000 non-invasive procedures
- More than 4,600 cardiac catheterizations with coronary, carotid and peripheral vascular angioplasties and stent placements
- More than 800 electrophysiological procedures including pacemakers, defibrillators and ablations
- More than 500 open-heart surgeries
