STONY BROOK, N.Y., October 11, 2006 The Charles B. Wang Center at Stony Brook University presents a rare chance to meet a truly remarkable speaker and humanitarian, the author of over 400 stories, and an internationally published writer – nine-year old Adora Svitak. Coined the “tiny literary giant” by Diane Sawyer, she will appear on Friday, November 10 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, November 11 at 3 p.m. Svitak has appeared on countless television programs and published her first book, Flying Fingers, at the age of 7.
Joining the “tiny literary giant” will be her mother Joyce, Adora’s biggest supporter and coauthor of Flying Fingers. Joyce established the "Seeds of Learning Workshop for Kids," an arts and education program. Together they will be offering insights and practical tips from their own lives that will help parents inspire their children to improve their reading and writing skills.
For two days in November, these two inspirational figures will be sharing their individual experiences in Adora Svitak, A Child Prodigy Speaks. There will be a question and answer session, followed by a book signing with a reception.
