STONY BROOK, N.Y., October 5, 2006 -- On Sunday, November 12, the Stony Brook University Hospital Auxiliary celebrates “25 years of caring” with an evening reception and dinner at the Watermill in Smithtown. The event promises to be filled with festivities and good food, all to celebrate a milestone anniversary and help raise funds to support programs and services at Stony Brook University Medical Center. Cocktail hour begins at 6 pm followed by dinner and a program recognizing honorees, Stony Brook University President Shirley Strum Kenny and 25-year Auxilian and past Auxiliary President, Beverly Sokoloff.
To date, the Stony Brook University Hospital Auxiliary has raised almost $6 million which has been used to support many employee activities, purchase state-of-the-art hospital equipment and enhance patient care. Some of the Auxiliary's contributions include a birthing room, a mammographic ultrasound machine, ultrasound equipment for high risk obstetrical cases, and life support ambulances.
"We give our time and effort to help raise money for University Hospital projects for which other sources of funding are not available," said Barbara Delfyett, Auxiliary President. "We also sponsor research initiatives such as the Burn Center's Skin Bank research and breast cancer research. Most people in our community have probably benefited in some degree from the work we do at Stony Brook."
The Auxiliary derives its funding from the Auxiliary Gift Shop, in-house vendor sales and annual fund-raising events such as the "25 Years of Caring" event. Membership benefits include an invitation to the annual luncheon, advance notice of all special events, quarterly newsletters and an annual report.
“The Auxiliary plays a critical role at this institution,” said Hospital CEO, Fred Sganga. “They help unite the hospital with the community and the hospital is fortunate to have the selfless support of these truly dedicated men and women.”
