Still from, "Abode of the Serpent: Director's Cut"

This documentary is a look at the transitions taking place within an Indian region, Saputara, due to its resulting economic boom, tourism and the introduction of modern technologies. It examines the effects of these transitions on its local people and then compares them to the same issues that face us all on a global level; such as global warming and increasingly diminishing natural resources. Interviews are conducted with experts on a variety of topics, such as world politics, the shifting of power within the global economic landscape, international environmental concerns, population control and the effects of westernization on indigenous cultures. The Director's Cut features interviews with two Stony Brook Southampton faculty members: former U.N. environmental official Prof. Nay Htun and geochemisty Prof. Martin Schoonen.

In its second year, Stony Brook Southampton, a model of sustainability that was featured in The New York Times this past summer and on "NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams" and "The Today Show" this past spring, is continuing with its plans to build one of the nation's truly green campuses.
