Stony Brook Southampton Students Lead the Charge for "Earth Hour"
SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y., March 20, 2009—Stony Brook Southampton students -- members of the SBS Wildlife Conservation and Environment Club -- are reminding local residents to join them in a new movement that we all can participate in on Saturday, March 28 at 8:30 p.m. It's called “Earth Hour.”

“At that time, we're hoping that everyone turns off all electricity – all lights, all computers, all TV sets,” said club president Melanie Lauzon. “It's amazing what one simple act can do for the future of our planet.
“Use the hour to come together with friends and family to play ‘in the dark' games and activities,” she said. “Look up at the stars, or talk about what you can do every day to save energy.”
The SBS Wildlife Conservation and Environment Club has been involved in getting students and faculty on campus to join the effort, and encourages the East End community to be a part of Earth Hour. The club has already established a series of activities exclusively for on-campus students during the hour, including a manhunt.
