Stony Brook Southampton Hosts Trailblazer Leadership Awards

Dr. Martin Schoonen and several students, faculty and staff were honored on Thursday, May 8, at Stony Brook Southampton at the first-annual Trailblazer Leadership Dinner honoring the end-of-academic-year achievements of the campus' first class.
 
The student-run Board of Finance presented the Hall of Chancellors Award to Schoonen, SBS's Interim Dean, for his outstanding vision and service toward helping implement a sustainable campus, and a plaque will be installed in his honor in the campus' main academic building.

Students Andrew Lo, Elyssa Hopkins, Giselle Scott, Alison Cordiale and Shalwyn (Sal) Ullah for service to the SBS community and its commitment to sustainability. Andrew Canonico and Caroline Burghardt were given the Students Trailblazer Activities Award as "pioneers of sustainable programming." Michael Stoute and Noah–Lee Andre were given recreation and wellness awards, while Lucas Merlo, Terra Dunlop, Camellia Lares, Rose Parbhudial were named "Emerging Leaders." Student Jeff Lang and Professor James Hoffmann were named Sustainable Living Trailblazers, while Evan Peoples and Professor Stephanie Wade were named Green Living Trailblazers. Dean of Students Anamaria Cobo de Paci won the Staff Award for her "commitment to the social, cultural and sustainable mission of Stony Brook Southampton." Student Affairs awards went to administrators Marie Sweatt and Darren Johnson. Various clubs and groups were also honored on campus, including the Greenhouse Group, Marine Biology Club, Commuter Student Association, Residence Life Council, Southampton Gaming League, and the Board of Finance, which includes: Ryan Wallace, Peoples, Merlo, Deborah Klughers, Michael Pirozzi, Lang, Burghardt, Heidi Mittelsdorf, Autumn Droste and Shane Zellner.
