STONY BROOK DENTISTS TEAM UP WITH “WOLFIE” AND RONALD MCDONALD
TO “GIVE KIDS A SMILE”
 
Annual Event Provides Hundreds of Children in Need with Free Dental Care
 
WHAT:                
Hundreds of Long Island children receive free dental screening, cleaning, and fluoride treatments from Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine professionals at the American Dental Association’s (ADA) annual “Give Kids a Smile” Day.  The children also receive:
 
A welcome and teeth cleaning demo from “Wolfie,” the big-toothed Stony Brook University mascot
A “thumbs up” from Ronald McDonald, there to entertain the children
Oral health education materials
A gift bag upon completion of their dental care

Hundreds of children from area schools
SBU dentists, residents, and oral health professionals
Dental health professionals from the Suffolk County Dental Society

WHY:        
“Give Kids a Smile” Day is a one-day event sponsored by the ADA. It is the centerpiece of a national campaign to provide dental care and promote the importance of oral health to children whose families might not have ready access to care due to their economic status. Each year more than 500,000 children are treated during Give Kids a Smile Day.
 
DIRECTIONS
LIE (495) to Exit 62. North on Nicolls Rd. 8.5 miles. Cross over Rt. 347 and make a left at the first Stony Brook University entrance (South Entrance). Immediately, follow signs to the entrance of the Dental Care Center, which is directly on the right.
