WHAT:
Meet some 75 open heart surgery patients who have recovered within the past year as they mingle, celebrate, share stories, and have dinner with the doctors, nurses and staff of the Stony Brook Medicine Heart Center. The event also features a physician-led presentation on the achievements and progress of the Heart Center, including the increase in heart failure patients receiving life-saving devices, and coming treatments, such as gene therapy to help grow heart blood vessels.
WHO:
Meet patients like Soterios Georghiou, 60, of Patchogue, a heart failure patient who recently received a left ventricle assist device, has battled heart disease for 15 years, multiple surgeries and different treatments – all under the care of several Stony Brook physicians.
