Peter Gergen, Ph.D., is Director of the Center for Developmental Genetics in the Centers for Molecular Medicine. He also is a Professor of Biochemistry and Cell Biology. Dr. Gergen’s principle research interest focus on the mechanisms used to regulate gene expression in the Drosophila (fruit fly) embryo and he has taken an active role in integrating studies in this powerful genetic system with experiments in other embryological systems. His post-doctoral training in Molecular Biology and Developmental Genetics took place at Princeton and the Imperial Cancer Research Fund in England.

Specific areas of expertise: Genetics of development , mechanisms of cell fate specification, embryonic pattern formation, molecular genetics of transcriptional regulation.
