University Experts Fu-Pen Chiang, Ph.D., is Professor and Chair of the Mechanical Engineering Department and Director of the Laboratory for Experimental Mechanics Research at Stony Brook University. Regarded as one of the world's leaders in the field of experimental solid mechanics, Dr. Chiang's research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, Office of Naval Research, Air Force Office of Scientific Research, Army Research Office, Department of Transportation, and industrial concerns. He received the B.J. Lazan Award from the Society for Experimental Mechanics in 1993 in recognition of his outstanding original technical contributions in optical metrology.
