Iwao Ojima, Ph.D., is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Director of the Institute for Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery. The institute conducts research focused on the understanding of the molecular basis of diseases, therapeutic targets, drug actions, and drug resistance. His primary research is concentrated on the design, synthesis, and structure-activity relationship of biologically active compounds of medicinal interest, and particularly on the development of new and potent anti-cancer agents.

Specific areas of expertise: Potent taxoid anti-cancer agents. Anti-thrombotic agents. Asymmetric synthesis.
