Solomon brings extensive experience in health care administration to Stony Brook, having served in numerous roles. Most recently he worked for Harvard Medical International as a Senior Consultant, where he served as the Project Director and Acting CEO leading the development and implementation for a 500-bed university teaching hospital in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, affiliated with Harvard Medical School. Prior to that he was COO for Cambridge Health Alliance, a Harvard Medical School teaching system which includes three hospitals, 22 health centers, a Physician Organization (PO), a Medicaid Managed Care Organization (MCO) and serves as the Public Health Department for the City of Cambridge. He has also served as Assistant Vice President overseeing the Heart Institute for the Hospital of the Good Samaritan; Assistant Vice President for Clinical Services at Brigham and Women’s Hospital; Executive Director for the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program. Solomon received his undergraduate degree from Roanoke College, his Masters in Public Health in Health Systems Management from Tulane University and his Master of Business Administration from Tulane’s A.B. Freeman School of Business. He also served as a Pew Foundation Management and Health Policy Fellow at University of California-San Francisco. “Bruce brings strong administrative background as well as qualitative and quantitative skills to SBUMC,” said Dr. Strongwater. “He has a proven track record working in academic medicine and providing leadership to large numbers of direct reports. Apart from his many accomplishments, he has an engaging personality.” Solomon's experience will enable him to assist Dr. Strongwater in oversight of the completion of the hospital's Major Modernization project, the first major refurbishment of the hospital since it opened in 1980. The project includes an expanded and modernized Emergency Department, Surgical Expansion, a new Cancer and Imaging Center that opened in 2007, and the new Heart Center. As COO, Solomon is also responsible for reaching conclusion on establishing alliances with three east end hospitals. “I was immediately attracted to the friendliness and helpfulness of everyone I met in an organization performing at a high level with huge opportunities for development and expansion,” said Solomon. "Coming to work at Stony Brook is a coming home to me after growing up on Long Island." Solomon grew up in East Meadow.
