Peter Morelli, M.D, in the Department of Pediatric Cardiology at Stony Brook University Hospital was one of the first physicians in the nation to establish an obesity clinic specifically for children. The Pediatric Preventative Cardiovascular Risk Clinic incorporates nutritional counseling, supervised activity and exercise, and educational support for overweight children. The clinic treats seven to 18 years olds and focuses on decreasing BMI (body mass index), decreasing blood pressure, and maintaining or losing weight. The clinic sessions are held twice a week for 10 weeks, after school and on weekends in order to accommodate the schedules of children and their parents.
Specific areas of expertise: pediatric obesity, nutrition, and hypertension.
