Medical Ethics

Jack Coulehan, M.D., is the Director of the Institute for Medicine in Contemporary Society and Professor of Preventive Medicine at Stony University's School of Medicine. He also serves as co-chair of the Stony Brook University Hospital Ethics Committee and Director of the hospital's Ethics Case Consultation Service. He is the author of over 130 articles and book chapters in the medical literature, ranging in topic from clinical trials of depression treatment in primary care and studies of heart disease among Navajo Indians, to medical humanities and the physician-patient relationship.

Specific areas of expertise: End-of-life care.



Stephen G. Post, Ph. D., is Director of the Center for Medical Humanities, Compassionate Care, and Bioethics at Stony Brook University.  He is recognized for his research on compassionate care at the interface of science, ethics, religious thought, and behavioral medicine, and for expertise on ethical aspects of caring for persons with dementia and developmental cognitive disabilities. He was awarded the annual  prize in Medical Humanities by World Literacy Canada in 2008.
