Berhane Ghebrehiwet, D.V.M., D.Sc., is a Professor of Medicine and Pathology in the School of Medicine who has been involved in the field of complement research for over two decades. His research interests include C1q receptor mediated cellular responses with particular emphasis on inflammation and microbial infection. His laboratory was the first to identify and characterize two C1q multiligand binding molecules designated cC1q-R (calreticulin or collectin receptor) and gC1q-R (p33), which bind not only to the two disitnct domains of C1q, but also to other plasma and microbial proteins.

Specific areas of expertise: Complement, inflammation and infection.
