John S. Kovach, M.D., an internationally-known expert in cancer research and epidemiology, is Professor of Preventive Medicine in the School of Medicine. He was also Founding Director of the Long Island (now Stony Brook University) Cancer Center which integrates research conducted in the School of Medicine with clinical care provided at Stony Brook University Hospital. Dr. Kovach's work focuses on the prevention and epidemiology of breast cancer, prostate cancer, brain cancer, and many other cancers.
Specific areas of expertise: The molecular basis of cancer, particularly genetic susceptibility to damage from environmental toxins.
