Howard L. Adler, M.D. is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Urology and Director of the Prostate Care Program. His main research focus is on prostate cancer and benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH). He also is involved in areas of research related to bladder cancer. As part of the Physician-Scientist Training Program, he collaborates with other Stony Brook investigators to evaluate the role of matrix metalloproteinases in prostate cancer progression. Dr. Adler gives local and regional presentations regarding benign prostatic hypertrophy and prostate cancer.

Eva Chalas, M.D., is Deputy Director of Women�s Cancer Services at the Stony Brook University Cancer Center and Associate Professor for the Division of Gynecologic Oncology in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine. Dr. Chalas is also President and Managing Partner of the Long Island Gynecologic Oncologists, P.C., one of largest practices of its kind on Long Island. She also is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and Board Certified in Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Gynecologic Oncology.

M. Cristina Leske, M.D., M. P. H., is internationally recognized for her epidemiologic studies on eye diseases and breast cancer on Long Island. A member of the Institute of Medicine, National Academy of Sciences and former Chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine, Dr. Leske was the Principal Investigator of the most far-ranging study of the relationship of electro-magnetic fields to breast cancer ever conducted. In addition, she has been a worldwide leader in the epidemiology of eye diseases, including glaucoma and cataracts, and specifically on the occurrence and risk factors for eye diseases in black populations.

Allen G. Meek, MD is Professor of Radiation Oncology and Chairman of the Department of Radiation Oncology. The Department of Radiation Oncology provides state of the art cancer care for both children and adults, develops new instrumentation for research and patient care and pursues investigations into new applications of ionizing radiations. Dr. Meek has been at Stony Brook and Chairman for 20 years, is an officer and on the board of directors of several not for profit community based organizations and serves as a reviewer for the NIH Clinical Research Study Section.

Dr. Brian O'Hea is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Stony Brook University and Director of the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Care Center, the leading facility of its kind in Suffolk County. He was a Special fellow, Breast Service at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York 1995-1996. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a active member of both the Society of Surgical Oncology and the American Society of Breast Surgeons .

Robert Parker, M.D. is Director of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology in the Department of Pediatrics and an Associate Director of the Stony Brook University Cancer Center. He is considered one of the leading experts in the treatment of childhood cancers and Stony Brook�s pediatric oncology program is nationally recognized for its excellence. He has conducted extensive research on bleeding disorders, platelet disorders, and childhood cancer for the National Institutes of Health and is Professor of Pediatrics, Vice Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics, and a member of the Clinical Advisory Board of the Stony Brook University Cancer Center.

Michael L. Pearl, M.D., is Associate Professor and Director for the Division of Gynecologic Oncology in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine. Dr. Pearl is the principal investigator for the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG) at Stony Brook. The GOG is a national organization devoted to developing and carrying out clinical trials for gynecologic cancers. Dr. Pearl also oversees the research program for the Division of Gynecologic Oncology and is a principal investigator or co-investigator on many National Institutes of Health / National Cancer Institute supported research grants. He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, as well as gynecologic oncology. Dr. Pearl is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a Full Member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists and Western Association of Gynecologic Oncologists.

Basil Rigas, M.D. Sc.D., is a Professor in the Department of Medicine and Chief, Division of Cancer Prevention. Dr. Rigas' work focuses on the pharmacological prevention of cancers of the colon and the pancreas. His group made key contributions to our understanding of how aspirin and aspirin-like drugs prevent colon and other cancers. He is now developing the highly promising nitroaspirin for the prevention of colon and pancreatic cancer, being supported by five NIH grants. He also pioneered the application of infrared spectroscopy to biology with emphasis on cancer, holding several relevant patents. He is the author of over 100 peer-reviewed publications and has co-authored a textbook of Gastroenterology, which was translated into several foreign languages.

Maisie Shindo, M.D. , is an Associate Professor in the Division of Otolaryngology and Director of Head and Neck Oncology. Dr. Shindo has organized a multidisciplinary approach to the care of head and neck cancer patients and her current focus is thyroid and parathyroid surgery. She has approximately 40 peer-reviewed publications, authored 15 book chapters, and has been presented lectures all throughout all over the world on the topics of head-and-neck cancer. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology, a senior examiner for the American Board of Otolaryngology, and a member of the American Thyroid Association.

Theodore G. Gabig, M.D., is Associate Director of the Stony Brook University Cancer Center and Chief, Division of Hematology/Oncology. He has practiced as a medical oncologist for 30 years and oversees the clinical care program within Hematology/Oncology. The division includes multidisciplinary treatment teams for all major forms of cancer. A goal of the division is to search for better ways to prevent cancer and methods to detect it, with a special emphasis on gastrointestinal cancers and lung cancer. Dr. Gabig has spearheaded smoking cessation educational programs at several healthcare institutions and is developing one for Stony Brook University Medical Canter. Dr Gabig centers his research on searching for new biomarkers of cancer, particularly for lung cancer.
