STONY BROOK, N.Y., January 22, 2002—A benefit honoring the heroes and —those who lost their lives at the World Trade Center attacks will take place on Sunday, February 10 when the Latin American Student Organization (LASO) at Stony Brook University hosts "United We Stand." The event will feature a variety of musical and dance performances from both campus and community-based organizations, and representatives of local police and fire departments are also expected to attend.

"United We Stand" will be held at the Student Activities Center Auditorium at 1:00 PM. Tickets are $8.00 per person and are available at the SAC box office, Monday thru Friday, 10:00 AM-3:00 PM. All proceeds will benefit Stony Brook Responds, the University's fundraising effort to benefit the victims and families of the September 11 World Trade Center tragedies. All contributions will be presented to the New York State World Trade Center Relief Fund as a collective gift from the University community.

Performances at the event will include the LASO dance troupe, a dramatic piece by the Asian Student Alliance, a ballet by students from Stony Brook's Theatre Department, a monologue by student Ayomide Akinsanya, a singing performance by student Jacqueline Rodriquez, and an appearance by the Stony Brook Gospel Choir. In addition, the Diversity Dance Program at Central Islip High School will do five performances by children aged 7-15.
