General University News STONY BROOK, N.Y., November 10, 2009 – On December 1st, 2009, at 7:00 P.M. the Confucius Institute at Stony Brook University (CISBU) will host China’s award-winning Student Choir of Nankai University at the Charles B. Wang Center. Having performed at top concert venues around the world, the Student Choir of Nankai will present Stony Brook University and the surrounding community with a diverse repertoire of Chinese and Chinese minority folk classics.
Dr. William Arens, Director of the Confucius Institute, values the opportunity to present the Student Choir of Nankai University and to share China’s great choral traditions with the local community. “The Student Choir of Nankai University performance will be an important inter-cultural experience for the Stony Brook community, ” said Dr. Arens. Established in November 2008, the Confucius Institute at Stony Brook University oversees non-credit academic Chinese language and cultural programs aimed at strengthening Chinese educational and cultural exchanges. In addition, the Confucius Institute regularly hosts visiting scholars from the People’s Republic of China and supports related lectures on China’s developing social and educational trends. The event is open to the public, at no charge, and will take place at the Charles B.
