Funds raised by the Stony Brook University Hospital Auxiliary were used to purchase two new GE Healthcare LOGIQ TM  P5 mobile ultrasound systems for use in the Hospital’s busy Emergency Department (ED).

"The Auxiliary is proud to support the services offered by the Emergency Department at Stony Brook University Hospital," said Auxiliary President, Carolyn Levine. “When we can do something like this to help the residents of Suffolk County receive quality healthcare, we have accomplished a significant part of our mission.”

With additional broadband probes, enhanced 4D capabilities, and image management options, the LOGIQ P5 mobile ultrasound system enhances point-of-care ultrasound imaging services offered in the Stony Brook University Hospital Emergency Department. The sleek LOGIQ P5 is armed with advanced imaging applications – like High Definition Speckle Reduction Imaging, CrossXBeam™ imaging and 4D Imaging. At half the weight and size of most console-based systems, the LOGIQ mobile ultrasound is easy enough to maneuver with one finger, even in the tightest exam rooms. It is typically used for OB/GYN exams urology procedures, general imaging, breast imaging , cardiac assessments, vascular studies , emergency medicine , and as a transducer guide .

“We very much appreciate this donation from the Auxiliary and although our patients may not be aware of this gift, they are the true benefactors,” said Dr. Peter Viccellio, Vice Chairman, Department of Emergency Medicine. “Because they are so easily maneuvered, these ultrasound units allow us to make rapid diagnosis during any emergency situation.”

To date, the Stony Brook University Hospital Auxiliary has raised more than $6 million, which has been used to support employee activities, purchase state-of-the-art hospital equipment and enhance patient care. Some of the Auxiliary's contributions include a birthing room, a mammographic ultrasound machine, ultrasound equipment for high-risk obstetrical cases, and life support ambulances.
The Auxiliary derives its funding from the Auxiliary Gift Shop, in-house vendor sales and annual fundraising events such as the "25 Years of Caring" event.
