STONY BROOK, N.Y., April 20, 2006—Lance King, who has 14 years of experience in fund-raising in higher education and health care, has been named Vice President/Advancement at Stony Brook University. King will supervise all of the campus efforts in securing individual, corporate, and foundation support for Stony Brook, which is currently conducting a $300 million capital campaign, the first in the history of the University. He also will serve as President of the Stony Brook Foundation.

“We are delighted that Lance has joined us,” Stony Brook President Shirley Strum Kenny said. “His extraordinary skills will help the University reach its goals in supporting the students and faculty, and in realizing the vision we all have.”

King will begin his new position on June 1. He will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies for private and public support and for operating fund-raising campaigns as Stony Brook prepares to celebrate its 50th Anniversary during the 2006-07 academic year.

“I am pleased and honored to be joining Stony Brook at such a pivotal time in its history. By partnering closely with President Kenny, our talented faculty, and committed volunteers to increase private giving, I believe we will chart an exciting course for the University’s future. Stony Brook is a treasure, and is poised for greatness. I am eager to be a part of such a dynamic academic community,” King commented.

King was most recently Senior Vice President for Development at the University of Colorado Foundation, and also served there as Vice President, Corporate and Foundation Relations and Development Services. Prior to that, he was Executive Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations, at the University of Texas. He also has held development positions the University of Texas’ College of Pharmacy and the American Society of Health System Pharmacists Research and Education Foundation in Bethesda, Maryland.

King has a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the University of Texas and completed a post-graduate residency in nonprofit management.
