STONY BROOK, NY, February 21, 2012 – Lynn Johnson, formerly Assistant Vice President of Human Resource Services at Stony Brook University, has been appointed to the position of Vice President of Human Resource Services at Stony Brook effective immediately, announced Samuel L. Stanley Jr., MD, President, Stony Brook University.
As Vice President of Human Resource Services, Johnson is the Chief Human Resource Officer for State and Research Foundation employees working on the West Campus, in the Health Sciences Center, at Stony Brook Manhattan and Stony Brook Southampton and at the Research & Development Park. She also has oversight of the Labor Relations functions for Research Foundation and State employees in those same areas. In this position, Johnson is the Payroll Officer for the entire campus, overseeing payroll services for more than 13,000 employees at Stony Brook University. She will have an expanded role in the Operational Excellence initiative of Project 50 Forward, and is a key member of the Budget Working Group. She will also serve as a member of the University Council.

Johnson has been an integral member of the Stony Brook University community for more than 20 years, serving in various management positions. In 2000 she became the Director of Human Resource Services at Stony Brook, and last year was named the Assistant Vice President for Human Resource Services. While Director and then AVP of Human Resource Services, Johnson was responsible for directing the development of online human resources and payroll services; she co-authored the Faculty & Staff Digest and opened a satellite Human Resource Services office on the Stony Brook Medicine campus. Additionally, when Stony Brook University and Battelle Memorial Institute became co-managers of Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), Johnson was an important member of the team responsible for transitioning approximately 3,000 BNL employees to Brookhaven Science Associates. Before joining Stony Brook, Johnson worked for three separate Local Education Authorities in England.
