Kids Cared For At SBUMC Get A Kick Out Of LI "Rough Riders" Hospital Visit

 

LI Rough Riders

Some players from The Long Island Rough Riders, which includes men’s and women’s traveling soccer teams, spent time at Stony Brook University Medical Center to visit with patients in each of the pediatric units at the hospital. The soccer players gave each patient an autographed T-shirt and water mug, and left each patient with a smile on their face. They were joined by the Rough Riders mascot Paul Revere.

 The Rough Riders visit was organized through the Child Life Program at SBUMC. Children cared for in the Pediatric Unit at SBUMC benefit from entertainment and fun activities that give them a needed respite from treatment and their hospital stay. The Child Life Program at SBUMC strives to normalize the healthcare experience for pediatric patients and their families and reduce the stress associated with illness and hospitalization. The program provides therapeutic, educational and recreational activities to meet the unique emotional and developmental needs of hospitalized children.
