SBU Senior from Central Islip Takes a Bite Out of Tuition with Winning Essay on News Literacy
Meghan Shalvoy, a Stony Brook University fourth year Women’s Studies major from East Islip, NY, won the School of Journalism’s second annual Center for News Literacy Spring 2009 essay contest with an essay addressed to the president of a fictional college, encouraging the college to keep News Literacy in its curriculum.

Stony Brook University Professor Receives Prestigious White House Award for Young Scientists and Engineers
Stony Brook University Assistant Professor of Chemistry, Elizabeth M. Boon, has been selected by Barack Obama as a recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE). In addition to receiving an invitation to the White House to receive her award from President Obama, Dr. Boon will receive $200,000 per year for up to five years to continue her research.
