One of the world’s preeminent conservationists and primatologists, Patricia Wright, PhD, has been elected to the American Philosophical Society, the oldest learned society in the United States which was started by Benjamin Franklin in 1743 for the purpose of “promoting useful knowledge.”

Preeminent Psychiatrist Recognized for Advancing the Prevention of Mental Illness in Children
Stony Brook University’s Gabrielle Carlson, MD, a renowned child psychiatrist, received the American Psychiatric Association’s (APA) prestigious Agnes Purcell McGavin Award for Prevention at the APA’s annual meeting last month. Dr. Carlson, a Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics, and Director of Stony Brook Children’s Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, received the award in recognition of her outstanding work in advancing the mental health of children and adolescents.

Stony Brook University Student Selected for National Leadership Program
Stony Brook University student Richard Shelton (’14) has been selected as one of the nation’s top rising young leaders in the sustainable energy sector by national non-profit organization Focus the Nation. Shelton will spend one week at the Recharge! Retreat in August exploring Mt. Hood in Oregon, an area where energy is accelerating toward renewables. LaValle Stadium, more than 5,600 students received their degree and the right to turn their tassels to the left becoming the University’s newest alumni.
