Stony Brook University’s Alan Tucker Cited For Meritorious Service To MAA

STONY BROOK, N.Y., March 6, 2006 — A Stony Brook University professor has been awarded a Certificate of Meritorious Service from the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). The certificate, given in recognition of services at the national level or for service to a section of the MAA, was presented to Alan Tucker, Ph.D., from Stony Brook’s Department of Mathematics at the association’s recent Joint Mathematics Meetings in San Antonio.

Dr. Tucker has been involved with the MAA since the early 1970s. He was Metropolitan New York Section Chair from 1994-1996 and was the MAA’s First Vice President from 1998-90. He has been Associate Editor of the Monthly, served on the Editorial Board of FOCUS, and was the Founding Chair of the Editorial Committee of MAA Notes.

He also served on the Committee on Participation of Women in Mathematics and chaired the Coordinating Council on Education, the Publications Committee, the Panel on the General mathematical Sciences Program, and the Upper-level Core Math Panel.
