Stony Brook University Professional One Of 11 Honored At Annual Women’s Recognition Celebration

STONY BROOK, N.Y., April 3, 2009 – Vanessa J. Herman, Assistant Director, Governmental Relations at Stony Brook University, was honored by the Town of Brookhaven at the 23rd Annual Women's Recognition Night.  One of 11 women honored at the ceremony for demonstrating excellence in a variety of areas, Herman was recognized for outstanding work in the field of Government.

At Stony Brook University for more than 10 years, Herman travels between Long Island, Washington DC and Albany to represent Stony Brook University, interacting with elected officials, their staff and with National Higher Education Organizations such as the AAU and the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU - formerly known as the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges/NASULGC).
 
Herman received her AA from Suffolk Community College and a BA and an MA from Stony Brook University. Before coming to Stony Brook University, Vanessa spent nearly eight years as Press Secretary and Executive Assistant to US Senator Alfonse D'Amato (R-NY), working out of his New York City office.    

Herman and her husband SFC Michael T. Donohue reside in Medford. Donohue is currently serving a 12-month tour of duty in Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom and is scheduled to return home in early June.
