STONY BROOK, N.Y., February 7, 2006 —The Student Activities Center (SAC) Gallery at Stony Brook University is proud to sponsor the Long Island College Art (LICA) Competition of 2006. The LICA Competition is an invitational competition open to all students of Long Island colleges and universities. The goal of the competition is to highlight the broad range of talent within the Long Island University and College system, while also putting the various student bodies in dialogue with one another. The competition will run from March 8 – April 6.

The LICA Competition provides participating students working in all media with an exciting and unique opportunity to take part in a professional art competition. The judging of student work will be based on the quality of the oeuvre, and will be undertaken by two distinguished figures in the art field, George Adams, of the George Adams Gallery in Chelsea, and Dread Scott, an independent artist. The jurors will present three prizes for three different categories. Individual prizes include the latest iBook G4, and a brand new iPod shuffle. Prizes and award certificates will be awarded during the special and catered opening reception on Friday, March 10th, 5:00-7:00pm.

The LICA Competition of 2006 includes the following participating institutions: CW Post, Dowling College, Molloy College, Nassau Community College, St. Joseph’s College, Stony Brook University, Suffolk Community College, and SUNY Old Westbury. All are invited and welcome to come and view the young artistic talents of Long Island.

The gallery is located in the Student Activities Center, main floor, Stony Brook University. Gallery hours: Tuesday-Friday: 11am-5pm.
