On Thursday, October 16, Stony Brook University Medical Center physicians, nurses, and staff will take off their white coats and scrubs to model some of the best fall fashions, from sporty clothes to formal wear, at the 8th Annual Fall Fashion Festival at Villa Lombardi's in Holbrook. The event benefits the GIFT (Giving Inspiration, Fighting Together) program at SBUMC. The GIFT program provides patients with comforting amenities, as well as access to support programs, educational materials, and other resources.
The Fall Fashion Festival is a celebration of cancer survivorship, highlighted by a special live performance by American Idol contestant, Joe Murena (of Smithtown), whose mother is a breast cancer survivor. It brings together cancer survivors, their doctors and other care providers from the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Care Center, and Stony Brook University Hospital departments of Surgery, Radiology, Radiation Oncology, Physical Therapy, Hematology/Oncology and Respiratory Care.
"The fashion show gains in popularity each year, and it is a perfect way to get everyone together to let their hair down and have some fun for a great cause," says Linda Bily, Radiology Supervisor, breast cancer survivor, and one of the organizers of the event. "We are passionate about the cancer journey, and this event helps us to support those who need certain items and support for their cancer journey," explains Bily.
In addition to the live performance by Joe Murena, the evening includes a cocktail hour and dinner. The event also features a DJ, live musical entertainment, from "Somewhere in Time," an a cappella group; as well as the Parade of Survivors, and 50 auctioned gift baskets, which include choices such as gourmet food options and handcrafted items.
